Breastfeeding complaint leads to apology

KITCHENER — Kristin Howard was enjoying a Sunday swim with her family at the Lyle S. Hallman pool when her five-month-old son started to fuss. Without a second thought, Howard got out of the pool, sat on a ledge near the waterslide and nursed her hungry baby. April 30, 2010  McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., in consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), announced a voluntary recall of certain over-the-counter (OTC) liquid products manufactured in the United States.  Read more.

Male Boost for Breastfeeding

April 20, 2010  Ireland's northwest is enlisting the help of fathers in a bid to boost breastfeeding rates in the region.  Health promotion development officer Liz Martin said fathers played a key and positive role in encouraging breastfeeding and yet there was a dearth of national and international research in this area.  Read full article here.

Calgarians join class action $15M lawsuit against birth control makers

April 9, 2010   Eight months after Chloe Papparis began taking a birth control pill for acne, she almost died from severe side-effects, she says.  Papparis is among 800 Canadians taking part in class-action lawsuits against the manufacturer of two birth control drugs, Yaz and Yasmin, which they allege have caused severe reactions, including seven deaths.  Go to full article
